The Selangor state government held a meeting recently to discuss the necessity of banning the sale of e-cigarettes

(Kuala Lumpur, 25th) The Selangor state government will hold a meeting in the near future to comprehensively discuss the necessity of banning the sale of e-cigarettes in Selangor.

Selangor State Executive Councillor for Health Affairs Jamaliyah said in a statement that her office will hold a joint meeting with the Selangor Chief Minister's Office and the Selangor Health Department to discuss the necessity of banning the sale of e-cigarettes.

"We also invite local governments and relevant central government agencies to attend to discuss the matter comprehensively."

She said that earlier, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin, in response to Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan's suggestion that all states ban e-cigarettes, had indicated that relevant research would be conducted.

She pointed out that the state government takes this matter seriously and will refer to the opinions of all relevant units before making any decision.

"At the federal level, the Ministry of Health and the Selangor Health Department play a regulatory role, including the registration, packaging, labeling, sales and enforcement of tobacco products in no-smoking areas, while at the state level, the business licenses of businesses are controlled by local governments, and the licenses issued by the authorities are only for the sale of electronic devices, not e-cigarettes or e-liquids."

She pointed out that the above meeting is also expected to involve the Ministry of Domestic Trade to look at the matter more comprehensively from the aspects of law enforcement, legal framework and socio-economic impact.

She stressed that any decision made by the state government will be carefully studied and will prioritize the welfare of the people, public health and effectiveness of law enforcement.

"I thank all parties for their concern and thank Ayob Khan for his suggestions. We will explore this issue comprehensively."
