The operation is a team of 50 volunteers from all corners of the Penang chapter, including students, professionals and retirees.
A week before the water supply was cut, volunteers began actively preparing, inspecting and deploying multiple 1,000-liter intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) to be used as mobile water storage facilities, and today, on the eve of the water supply cut, delivered clean water to those who needed it most.
Penang branch senior operations commander Muthukkumaran said that among those affected are mothers who need to take care of babies, elderly people living alone and patients who rely on water to maintain health and hygiene, and they must not be forgotten.
In addition, a 5,000-litre water tanker and two trained personnel from the Kelantan branch have arrived in Penang to assist with logistics and ground implementation.
The Penang Red Crescent Society has deployed several 1,000-litre IBCs to be used as mobile water storage facilitie.
The Red Crescent Society’s Central and Southern district clubhouses are each equipped with a fixed water tank.
He noted that the operation aims to cover at least 500 households in the next 48 hours, giving priority to those most in need. The response model includes fixed water supply points and mobile water tanker routes to ensure access to water in both urban and rural areas.
