Ministry of Health Q&A | Failure to display drug prices may result in a ticket or fine

(Kuala Lumpur, 2nd) The Ministry of Health’s Q&A said that any private medical institution or community pharmacy that does not display the price of medicines will be considered illegal and may face high fines or penalties.

The Q&A said that individuals who violate the law may face a fine of up to RM25,000; if convicted or fined not more than RM50,000; and companies that violate the law may face a fine of up to RM50,000; or a fine of not more than RM100,000.

However, the Q&A mentioned that this circular will be supervised and enforced in a tolerant, humane and effective manner in the initial stage so that private medical facilities can gradually adjust and reform

The enforcement of the circular will be carried out by the Ministry of Health under the guidance and cooperation of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.

The display of drug prices is a price transparency measure implemented under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, not price control; this is aimed at allowing private medical institutions and community pharmacies to display drug prices so that the public can clearly know the expenses to be paid and make reasonable choices.
